Residents in need of public assistance should contact the Loudoun County Department of Family Services, which coordinates the distribution of benefits, according to the individual's level of need. Eligibility workers determine each client's eligibility for various public assistance programs, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid, Food Stamps, General Relief, Fuel Assistance and other programs. The eligibility workers follow federal, state and local policies (which have certain income/resource limits) to determine benefit amounts for each program. The TANF, Food Stamps and General Relief programs require a face-to-face interview. The application for the Financial Assistance programs may be obtained at www.dss.virginia.gov/form in the Financial Assistance section. Food Stamp Applications may be submitted on the secure online website. All applications may be faxed to 703-771-5203.
In addition to public assistance, the Department of Family Services also coordinates the distribution of limited local resources to qualifying citizens with imminent needs. Please refer to the Community Support Unit link below for additional information.
The Commonwealth of Virginia believes that every child has a right to receive support from both parents. Many times this right is violated when parents who aren’t living with their children don’t provide them the kind of financial care they are entitled to.Since 1975, the Division of Child Support Enforcement has been able to help custodial parents and their children in many ways. In 1984, Congress passed additional laws which give the division even more authority to work on the problem of absent parents who fail to provide for their children’s needs.Additional information regarding Child Support is available online at: www.dss.virginia.gov/division/dcse.
