County of Loudoun News Release October 23, 2009 Loudoun County Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award Loudoun County has received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the Fiscal Year 2010 budget. The association cites Loudoun County government and staff for a “commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.” In order to receive the budget award, Loudoun County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well a government’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. In addition to the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation has been presented to Loudoun County Budget Officer Luz Cofresi-Howe, the person designated as being primarily responsible for the county receiving the award. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program recognizes governmental entities that have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide excellent examples for other governments to follow. The GFOA is a nonprofit, professional association serving 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The group’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only North American awards program in governmental budgeting. More information about the GFOA is available online at www.gfoa.org.
