Gum Spring Library Groundbreaking Set for Saturday, November 7

The Gum Spring Library will break ground on Saturday, November 7, 2009. The library will be located in the Stone Ridge community in Loudoun County. The ceremony will take place on site in Stone Ridge beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a reception at the clubhouse. Loudoun County Public Library Director, Douglas A. Henderson said, “The groundbreaking for Gum Spring Library on November 7 is a momentous occasion for the community and the county as a whole. I cannot think of a better investment in the future than this new library.”

The library will occupy two floors of the four-story building encompassing 40,000 square feet. Stone Ridge Community Development, LLC, is dedicating the space to the county. “This will be a strong addition to our thriving community,” stated Roy Barnett, Group President of Van Metre Companies. Loudoun County expects to open its doors in late 2011. “We are incredibly excited to have reached such an important milestone in the development of the Gum Spring Library,” said Karen Montgomery, Library Board of Trustee, Dulles District. “I’m looking forward to celebrating with you all again when we open the doors.”

The addition of the Library will immediately add 160,000 books to the Loudoun County Public Library System. The Gum Spring Library will provide the professional staff, books and materials that will encourage children to become lifelong readers. Teens and adults will have access to a welcoming environment of information and all community members will have a world of technology waiting for them at the library. Plans for the Gum Spring Library include an exciting Teen Center for ages 12 to 18. Computer stations, gaming materials, and homework help are just a few of the teen related activities. A Fairy Tale Room for younger readers and programs for all ages will be implemented.

Officials say the library is a prime example of a private/public partnership that benefits the county and the community.

The ceremony will be held at 24609 Nettle Mill Square, Stone Ridge. For directions visit www.StoneRidgeVA.com.
