Volunteer Loudoun

Student Volunteer Programs

Volunteer Loudoun encourages young people to volunteer in their communities through several student volunteer programs. Information about the programs and related forms are online.

Student Volunteer Scholarship Program

Volunteer Loudoun sponsors an annual Student Volunteer Scholarship Program program in which graduating seniors in each Loudoun County public high school and the C.S. Monroe Technology Center, as well as seniors in private schools and home-schooled seniors, are eligible for at least a $500 scholarship.

The award recipients are selected based on their volunteer service to the Loudoun community. The 2009 recipients were:

  • Broad Run High School: Catherine Casares, Haley Detrich, Jacqueline Glass, Sarah Hanby
  • Dominion High School: Rebecca Smith
  • Heritage High School: Amanda Garnier, Lauren Stephens
  • Loudoun County High School: Alyssa Samuel
  • Loudoun Valley High School: Elizabeth Backman, Thomas Kane
  • Park View High School: Sarah Taylor
  • Potomac Falls High School: Abha Ardra, Katharine Colfelt

The program is funded each year by donations from Loudoun County businesses, civic groups and individuals. The 2009 scholarships could not have been possible without generous donations provided by Leadership Loudoun, Hospital Corporation of America, and The Sterling Foundation. Donations are currently being accepted for the 2009-2010 scholarship program.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the scholarship program. Platinum ($5,000 and above), Gold ($1,500), Silver ($1,000) and Bronze ($500) recognition is given to sponsors for their generous donations. To learn more or to make a contribution, click here

Student Certificate of Appreciation/Excellence Program

Volunteer Loudoun recognizes students from grades K-12 for their commitment to the community. Students are asked to record their volunteer hours using our Student Volunteer Hours Form, which can be obtained in the Volunteer Loudoun office, through each school's guidance office, or online:

Students should keep accurate records, which will be required if applying for a Volunteer Loudoun scholarship, which is available to graduating seniors in all public and private schools, as well as the home-school community

Student Volunteer of the Month Awards

Volunteer Loudoun seeks nominations for outstanding student volunteers to be recognized as Student Volunteer of the Month. The qualifying student, or groups of students, must live and go to school in Loudoun County. Recognition is given to students in grades K through 12, who volunteer their time in a variety of ways such as in their schools, churches, neighborhoods, with nonprofits, etc.

A one-page narrative may be sent to the Volunteer Loudoun Board, Student Recognition Committee, at pivs@loudoun.gov or to 1 Harrison Street, S.E., P.O. Box 7000, Leesburg, Virginia 20177. The one-page narrative should include the student's name, address, telephone number, school, and a description, including length of service, of the exemplary volunteer efforts of the student. Contact information for the person nominating the student should also be included.

Student volunteers will be featured in the Volunteer Loudoun newsletter and on the Volunteer Loudoun website. Volunteer Loudoun will also make a $100 contribution to the student's nonprofit organization of choice.

For more information contact Lisa Rose, Volunteer Coordinator, at 703-777-0113 or pivs@loudoun.gov.
