Mental Health Centers
The Loudoun County Department of Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Substance Abuse Services (MH/MR/SAS) has two Mental Health Centers that provide diagnostic and treatment services for Loudoun County citizens and families who are experiencing chronic or acute emotional problems. Both centers offer such services as alcohol and drug abuse treatment, mental health treatment, psychosocial rehabilitation, and 24-hour crisis intervention.

Emergency Services
Crisis intervention services are available 24 hours a day to persons who are experiencing severe emotional crises. The Department of MH/MR/SAS provides crisis intervention and stabilization services to individuals and families who, due to emotional problems or substance abuse, are in need of immediate assistance.

Outpatient Services
Outpatient services of the Department of MH/MR/SAS provides help for individuals and families experiencing emotional and/or situational problems. Services include assessment, referral, case management, psychiatric and psychotherapy services. Modalities include individual, group, couples, family therapy and intensive in-home therapy.

Prevention Services
Prevention Services of the Department of MH/MR/SAS provides mental health education and substance abuse prevention programs in the schools and in the community. These programs include presentations, training, and groups on such topics as addiction, anger management, conflict resolution, self-esteem, communication skills, grief and suicide prevention.

Community Support Services
The Department of MH/MR/SAS provides therapy and case management to residents and families affected by mental illness. Services include assessment, referrals to community resources, hospital discharge planning assistance, medication monitoring, therapy, case management, and psychiatric nursing services.

Supported Living Services
The Department of MH/MR/SAS's Supported Living Services provides treatment, training and support to residents who have psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities. Skills training includes self-care, daily living activities, educational/vocational training, interpersonal skills, and decision making and problem solving skills.
The goal of this service is to tailor the treatment interventions to the specific needs of each person. The level of service varies with the client's needs. A client may receive supervision based on need -- individual day care, daily (partial day), weekly or bi-weekly. The Supported Living staff provides training experiences and opportunities to enhance the client's community living skills.

Employment Services
Employment services provide services to Loudoun residents with mental retardation or serious mental illness. The Job Link program helps people get and keep jobs in the community.

Friendship House
The Loudoun County Department of MH/MR/SAS operates Friendship House, which provides an all-day psychosocial rehabilitation program for its members. Friendship House is appropriate for those community members whose daily lives and functioning are impaired by mental illness, but who do not require institutionalization. Transportation is available.
Each member participates in a variety of activities to provide opportunities, experience and support that will allow the individual to develop the work and social skills required to remain successful in the community setting. Vocational assessment, training and support are available.

Loudoun Adult Medical Psychiatric Services
Inova Loudoun Hospital provides short-term intensive in-patient psychiatric care, including individual, family and group therapy, and medication management. Activity programs include art therapy and life/leisure skills programs.

Friends of Loudoun Mental Health
Friends of Loudoun Mental Health is a private nonprofit organization which operates in partnership with the Supported Living Services of the Loudoun County Mental Health Services. This group advocates for mental health needs throughout Loudoun County, educates the general public about mental illnesses, and raises money to fund our various consumer-focused programs. Loudoun's Supported Living Services works directly with consumers of the county's programs who are experiencing serious mental illnesses.
